As co-presidents we wish to welcome everyone to the first official issue of the Hedgehog Breeder's Alliance Newsletter. This newsletter is directed to topics of interest to the breeding community. Those of us who have been around for many years, those of you just starting out and those of you contemplating going into breeding hedgehogs.

Most of the articles will be deal with the details of preparing to breed right through to the weaning process. There will be the occasional "off topic" item that will pertain to all hedgehogs, such as health and medical articles.

We hope this newsletter will help us all improve our methods and observations to arrive at healthier, happier moms and babies of the future. We also hope that anyone contemplating becoming a breeder will read, read, read first to know exactly what they are taking on.

Raising hedgehogs is a labor of love, not a matter of getting rich. It can and is rewarding, but it can also create extreme heartache, so be prepared. Hedgehog breeding is not for the faint of heart. It can be
heart wrenching enough that we often question ourselves "why am I doing this?" to then have a beautiful, healthy litter, and become hooked, all over again.
Since we are an international group, we hope to have someone available on our yahoo breeders list at all times.

Whether you are breeding to sell hedgehogs, breeding to have babies of your own to keep or happen to have an “oopsie” litter, we hope this newsletter and the Breeders Helping Breeders Yahoo Group will be your first to getting what information you may need.

Over time, with many issues being covered in this ewsletter, a combination of the group list and information you can gather from this newsletter, we hope to cover and answer most of your questions.

We welcome any and all articles, written by you, that will pass knowledge and observations on to others in all stages of breeding and raising hedgehogs. Often the longer you do something, the more routine it becomes, and those little things that come so naturally are overlooked when you are trying to help a new breeder. Though articles of your experiences, we can all learn from each other, and hopefully, not continue to make the same mistakes, or learn new and better ways to do things.

On behalf of the board of directors and advisors of the Hedgehog Breeder's Alliance, we welcome you.

Be sure to visit us at  www.hedgehogbreedersalliance.com
and if you are not member of breedershelpingbreeders, please contact us for an invitation. You can send your buyers to breedershelpingbuyers for follow up help with their new hedgehogs, just in case you are not available to give them help.
